Data Registry Services under Society of Thoracic Surgeons

The Society of Thoracic Surgeons is a society based in the United States of America that aims to bring reforms in the field of cardiothoracic surgery. Since its foundation in the year 1964, it has continued to grow its reputation in terms of cardiothoracic surgical improvements. The society now comprises of over 7200 certified surgeons and other medical professionals from across the globe.

    In 1989, the Society of Thoracic Surgeons started a national database known as Cardiothoracic Data Registry Services. This was done to ensure the availability of the best clinical data for the cardiac surgeons. The availability of this data promises the following:

  • Improvement in the quality of services of the hospital
  • More efficient workforce
  • New grounds for clinical research
  • New initiatives

The Society of Thoracic surgeons designed this database on three basic building blocks. The first one is the Adult Cardiac data. This data, as the name is self-explanatory, provides statistical facts and figures for adult cardiothoracic patients. The second is General Thoracic, which covers all the aspects of cardiac surgery and the third is Congenital Heart Surgery. Since its foundation in 1989, this National Database has shown a significant number of positive influences and is growing with every passing year.
